Tribute to Micheal Jackson (MJ)

Micheal Jackson (1958 - 2009)
We really didn’t plan to add anything new until July 1st. That was of course until life threw a cruel blow at Micheal Jackson; the King of Pop. We can’t say he has not had a profound effect on the development of music in Nigeria. We know that people such as Bola Bimbola of the 1987 ‘Sunmomi Famomi’ fame actually recorded Yoruba versions of a lot of Micheal Jackson’s songs. People such as P Square obviously got a lot of their dancing inspiration from Micheal Jackson directly or people like Usher who in turn got their inspiration from Micheal. Although mostly indirectly, Micheal had a profound effect on Nigerian entertainment in general. This morning, Facebook was filled with responses from various entities over in Nigeria who came online just to drop tributes to him.
According to BBC;
In Nigeria, a presenter on Radio Continental broke down live on air and could not continue her programme.
The BBC’s Tom Oladipo in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos said the Radio Continental presenter broke down sobbing live on air after hearing the news and her co-presenter had to take over.

Here's your candle Micheal Jackson... From 419 Radio
Its obvious the his effect was not minor. Among people in the 70s generation approaching the sudden peak of Jackson’s career, his death has been more emotional and has appealed better to their sympathy and anger about why such a legend would go so soon. Later generations only heard about him and experienced Jackson in a new light since the media emphasized his problems with sexuality and his surreal personality changes.
Last we heard of the Jacksons relating to Nigeria was in February when Micheal’s elder brother; Marlon talked about siting a $3.8 Billion resort in Badagry, Lagos. Our tribute goes to Micheal and the rest of the Jackson Family. We at 419 Radio appreciate every effect you’ve had in the development of entertainment in Nigeria. Without influence and inspiration from people like you, we are sure the Nigerian entertainment scene would not have experienced its extensive development in recent times.
R.I.P. Micheal Jackson
Below is the ‘Sunmomi Famomi’ song by Bola Bimbola from back in the days which we referred to earlier in our post. Its a ‘parody’ of ‘Off The Wall’ by Micheal Jackson. Drop your thoughts and comments. Don’t mind the quality. It was ripped off an LP. Thanks to Comb and Razor for this one.
